How It Works
Torsemide inhibits the Na⁺/K⁺/2Cl⁻ symporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, preventing reabsorption of sodium and chloride. This produces a strong diuretic effect, reducing fluid overload and lowering blood pressure.
Compared with furosemide, torsemide has higher and more consistent oral bioavailability (80–100% vs ~50%) and a longer duration of action, allowing once-daily dosing in most patients.
